NTNU Energy Transition Seminar: Modernizing Norwegian Hydropower
Thursday 23 January
14:30 – 16:00
NTNU Gløshaugen, Gruva
Oppredning, Sem Sælands vei, Trondheim, Norge
About the event
Organizer: NTNU Energy Transition Initiative
We hope you’ll join us again in Gruva for an engaging discussion on the topic: Upgrading Existing Hydropower
- Economic, Societal, and Environmental Perspectives
Description:
Norwegian hydropower has powered communities and industry for generations. This event explores how modern upgrades can extend that legacy by meeting new demand while balancing economic returns, societal benefits, and environmental preservation.
We’ve invited several experts from SINTEF and NTNU Team Hydro to present different perspectives: Adjunct Associate Professor Kaspar Vareide will discuss the potential for upgrades, including both completed and unrealized projects. Professor Stein-Erik Fleten will explore investment incentives, Professor Tomas Moe Skjølsvold will address key societal considerations, and Research Scientist Ana Adeva-Bustos from SINTEF Energy will examine the environmental implications.
Our goal is to provide a platform for learning about ongoing research projects, expanding academic networks, and sharing expertise across departments, all while approaching the energy transition from a holistic perspective. And of course, there’ll be pizza! 🍕
Format:
- 15 - 20 minute presentations from each speaker
- 30 minutes plenary
- Pizza and mingling.
Sign up for the email list on the website and receive exclusive invitations to interdisciplinary networking seminars at NTNU, focusing on how different disciplines come together to advance energy research. Join discussions, learn about ongoing research projects, and strengthen your academic network!
The NTNU Energy Systems Seminar is held in Gruva at Gløshaugen – on the last Thursday of the month (with some exceptions). Read more here: https://www.ntnu.edu/energytransition/ntnu-energy-systems-seminar
