Welcome to The ICDP Sharing Community!
In 1993, the World Health Organization (WHO) adopted the ICDP programme and published our handbook. Dr John Orley, the Head of the WHO Mental Health Division in Geneva became an important promoter of ICDP. In 1995, he opened doors for ICDP in Colombia, by putting Nicoletta Armstrong in touch with the Ministry of Health in Bogota. Subsequently, who became engaged in training local teams at Fundacion Amanecer, the FUNLAM university and the FAN organization, among others. During the 1990s we developed projects for poor communities, displaced families, earthquake victims, teachers, nurses, community (FAMI) mothers, families of ex-guerrilla fighters etc. Then in 2001, Nicoletta presented ICDP to UNICEF and over the following ten years, we developed large-scale projects in several departments of the country, in over 260 towns. ICDP was implemented through local secretariats for health, education and social services, reaching around 260 000 families and 600 000 children. It is the largest implementation to date. ICDP is currently active in Colombia in the departments of Quindío, Boyacá, Santander and Antioquia.
The presenter Abel Salazar, is a sociologist and ICDP trainer, who has over the last 25 years developed ICDP projects both through government and private foundations. He is currently developing a project called “Women with a Soul” in the poor village of Santa Teresa, in the eastern part of Antioquia, Colombia. The objective is to strengthen socio-emotional capacities in women through ICDP, as a basis for strengthening family relationships and developing rural entrepreneurship processes in the area.
