One of our most important missions at ARKIVET Peace and Human Rights Centre is to offer education to the pupils in the region. On day two of the European Conference we will present a new participatory session tailored to students in upper secondary school. During the new session named “In A Box At ARKIVET”, the students are given a variety of historical sources and based on the material we explore what stories are being told and which one are not. This event is customised to history teachers and others who work or study within the field of history.
11.15 -14 “European Democracy in Crisis –Challenges and Opportunities for International Organizations”, European Democracy in Crisis – Challenges and Opportunities for International Organizations.
Formal Opening of the University of Agder Jean Monnet Centre of ExcellencePresentation of research results and a panel discussion: Protecting democracy in a changing European political order (Venue: ARKIVET) Safeguarding democracy requires robust and legitimate forms of political order. Crises, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, represent systemic risks to such order, recently in Europe. The JMCE will discuss how crises can contribute to shaping and reforming the European Union. The role of the EU as a living laboratory of differentiated, yet contested, European democracy.
13.15-14 Unfolding Nordic Safe CitiesNordic Safe Cities is an alliance of 20 cities from Norway, Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Iceland working together to prevent hate and extremism and build safer cities in the Nordics. In this session the city of Kristiansand will present why and how they are connecting with cities and partner across the Nordics to improve local policies and project. The session will further feature insights into emerging challenges, policies and priorities across Nordic cities to prevent extremist hate and violence, defend democracy and ensure safer citiesin the framework of The European Conference for Democracy and Human Rights
