Training: Impetus Fundamentals (€400/seat)
Wednesday 5 November
09:00 – 12:30
About the event
Organizer: IMPETUS AFEA AS
Course Introduction: Impetus Fundamentals
Overview
Impetus Fundamentals is a back-to-basics introduction to numerical modelling using the Impetus Solver. Designed for new users and those looking to refresh their understanding, the course provides a structured foundation for building, editing, and running simulations.
What’s Included?
- Live digital training (3 hours)
You'll receive a course link to join the session. - Q&A session with our experts (30 min)
Ask questions and discuss with Impetus experts and fellow participants. - Ongoing support
You’ll get full access to our ticket-based help desk, modelling templates, and knowledge base to support you beyond the course.
Course structure
1. Introduction
- Why Numerical Modelling?
We begin by exploring the motivation for using numerical models in engineering and science. This module sets the stage by explaining the core challenges numerical tools are designed to solve. - Structure of a Numerical Model
Next, we break down the key components of a numerical model, including how models are constructed and what they represent. - The Impetus Engines
This module gives an overview of the different Impetus engines, including their individual specifications and intended application and required input formats.
2. Using the Impetus Editor
A practical walkthrough of the Impetus Editor:
- System and model definitions
- File structure and syntax
- Command logic and parameter control
- Navigating the GUI efficiently
3. Worked examples
Step-by-step basic examples from each Impetus engine built from scratch:
- Finite Elements (FE)
- Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH)
- Discrete Particles (DP)
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
- Coupling between engines
4. Interactive demonstration
In the last 45 minutes of the live training you'll be able to download and run the example models presented during the class, and watch a live demonstration of more advanced examples.
5. Q&A session (30 minutes)
We end the course with an opportunity to ask questions and discuss with Impetus experts and fellow participants.
