Upholding Trust: Protecting our content and brands with Media Provenance
Thursday 10 April
15:00 – 18:00
Rocca Paolina
Sangallo Palace Hotel, Via Luigi Masi, Perugia, Provinsen Perugia, Italy
About the event
Organizer: BBC and Media Cluster Norway
As newsrooms, our reputations, and in some ways our very survival is at risk through a loss of trust in journalism. This is fed, at least in part by sharp increases in fake and imposter content.
Our workshop is a practical exploration of how we can use media provenance to protect our journalism using trust signals to underpin online safety and digital growth.
Through a combination of presentations, discussions, and group work, we’ll outline effective strategies to use C2PA open-source technology in our newsrooms to safeguard content and strengthen transparency. Together, we’ll also help identify the challenges and solutions around the effective deployment of media provenance in the wider media landscape.
We know Perugia can be a whirlwind and we want to make this two-hour session as valuable as possible with actionable insights, thought provoking discussions.
Workshop: 15:00-17:00
Networking and drinks: 17:00-18:00
Who can join? Open to all, but requires registration.
What is C2PA?
- C2PA is an open-source technical standard for certifying the source and history (or provenance) of media content.
- Why it matters:
- Strengthens internal newsroom workflows
- Makes verifying images and other media assets easier
- Improves audience trust in news brands by providing greater transparency
