USk Workshop: Capturing stories. Visual storytelling in the Natural History museum.
13 June 18:00 –
15 June 17:00
Natural History museum, Oslo
Naturhistorisk museum, Sars' gate, Oslo, Norge
About the event
Organizer: MØKLEBY ILLUSTRASJON
Welcome to an USk Workshop in beautiful Oslo! Join us for a weekend capturing stories in our accordion sketchbooks. We will look for stories in the Natural History museum, and you may also choose to go sketching in the lovely Botanical Gardens nearby on the Sunday.
The workshop will focus on visual storytelling in an accordion sketchbook. You will learn ways to find stories around you and how can you tell that story using line, color and lettering. Together we will examine the special qualities of the accordion sketchbook and how to use it to better tell our stories. You will learn about composition, storytelling techniques used in picture books and comic strips, how to use writing and signs to expand the experience and how you can use color as a storytelling and compositional device.
A museum experience involves not only the exhibits, but also the guards, the visitors discussing the sculpture, the shop, the screaming baby, the information monitors, the tired guide looking wistfully out the window … there are many stories to sketch so we will have lots to do!
The workshop will be best for the intermediate and experienced sketcher.
This is an official Urban sketchers workshop, and is a collaboration with Urban Sketchers Oslo (USk Oslo).
